New name reflects organization’s mission to advance fish habitat conservation across the United States
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The nonprofit organization supporting the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) has officially rebranded from Beyond the Pond to the National Fish Habitat Fund, a name that more clearly reflects its mission, national impact, and commitment to conserving America’s fish habitats. The organization continues to operate as the official 501(c)(3) charitable partner of the National Fish Habitat Partnership, supporting conservation efforts through private philanthropy, corporate partnerships, and individual giving.
Originally established in 2015, the nonprofit was created to strengthen the National Fish Habitat Partnership by expanding opportunities to secure private funding for on-the-ground habitat conservation projects. While the name “Beyond the Pond” served the organization well during its formative years, the new identity provides a stronger connection to the nationally recognized National Fish Habitat Partnership and better communicates the organization’s purpose to donors, partners, and supporters.
“The National Fish Habitat Fund name immediately communicates who we are, who we serve, and why our work matters,” said Julie Carter, Chair of the National Fish Habitat Fund Board of Directors. “As we celebrate 20 years of the National Fish Habitat Partnership, this rebranding positions us to engage new supporters and expand investment in locally driven fish habitat conservation projects across the country.”
For two decades, the National Fish Habitat Partnership has united federal, state, Tribal, nonprofit, academic, and private-sector partners to protect, restore, and enhance aquatic habitats. Through this collaborative model, partners have completed more than 1,800 conservation projects and worked in every state, leveraging hundreds of millions of dollars in conservation investments to improve fisheries, enhance recreational opportunities, and strengthen local communities.
As the Partnership’s dedicated nonprofit, the National Fish Habitat Fund serves as the bridge between conservation needs and philanthropic investment. The organization provides individuals, foundations, corporations, and other private-sector partners with opportunities to directly support high-priority habitat restoration and conservation initiatives led by the National Fish Habitat Partnership’s 20 Congressionally recognized Fish Habitat Partnerships.
The rebranding also includes the launch of a new website, fishhabitatfund.org, which highlights the Fund’s mission, conservation impact, funding opportunities, and ways for supporters to help conserve fish habitat for future generations.
“Healthy fish habitat benefits everyone,” said Jesse Trushenski, Vice Chair of the National Fish Habitat Fund Board of Directors. “Whether it’s improving recreational fishing, restoring rivers and wetlands, supporting local economies, or ensuring clean water and resilient ecosystems, every investment made through the National Fish Habitat Fund helps create lasting conservation outcomes.”
The National Fish Habitat Fund invites conservation-minded businesses, foundations, outdoor recreation companies, anglers, and individuals to join its growing community of supporters as it works alongside partners to protect, restore, and enhance the nation’s aquatic resources.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL FISH HABITAT PARTNERSHIP
Since 2006, NFHP has supported over 1,800 projects benefitting fish habitat throughout all 50 states. This effort works to conserve fish habitat nationwide, leveraging federal, state, tribal, and private funding resources to achieve the greatest effect on fish populations through priority conservation projects of 20 Fish Habitat Partnerships organized around key fish species, geographic areas, or important fish habitats. In 2020, NFHP was recognized by Congress as part of the America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act and was reauthorized in 2024 through passage of the America’s Conservation Enhancement Reauthorization Act. NFHP guidance and policies are developed in conjunction with our partnerships and the National Fish Habitat Board. For more information, visit: https://fishhabitat.org/
